ING publishes Human Rights report
On November 16th 2018 ING released its first full UNGP report. In the report, ING looks at five salient human rights issues. For ING as an employer, these are work-related stress and discrimination; as a corporate lender, these are land-related community issues, child labour and forced labour. As a member of the Dutch Banking Sector Agreement (DBA) on human rights, ING highlights that through the agreement they have been spurred to publish the Human Rights report in this form.
One of many deliverables under the Banking Agreement is the preparation of a UNGP report. Throughout the report ING displays their understanding of the biggest risks to their own people and the people in the supply chains that they finance. In their own report, ING also highlights many of the DBA activities and how these will feed into the integration of human rights due diligence processes for the Bank.
The report uses the United Nations Guiding Principles Reporting Framework and demonstrates ING’s commitment to disclose:
- their efforts to embed respect for human rights into the fabric of their business;
- the salient issues they face in two of their operating roles: as an employer and as a corporate lender and the management of these issues;
- their dilemmas and challenges;
- the views and opinions of their stakeholders and how they may be acted upon;
- their future priorities.
