Recommendations for enabling remediation
In May 2019 Parties within the Dutch Banking Sector Agreement published a paper on enabling remediation. This paper explores the role and responsibility of banks with regard to remedy, when connected to human rights impacts through client relationships.
The paper also recognizes significant opportunities for banks to strengthen the focus on remedy in practice, whether in contribution or linkage situations, and thus contribute to better outcomes for people.
As a practical follow up, parties are now advising the adhering banks on the appropriate steps to integrate the findings of the Enabling remediation paper.
The six recommendations hopefully provide insights and learnings that would be relevant not only for Dutch banks, but for the broader global community.
