Why these pilots Natural Stone

Natural stone can be found everywhere in the Netherlands. It is in our road surfacing, but also in our kitchen counters. The way natural stone is quarried and traded poses risks worldwide in terms of human rights, environmental pollution and child labour.

To minimise the risk of such abuses and make the production and supply chain for natural stone as sustainable as possible, Dutch and Belgian parties in the sector, NGOs, trade unions and government are negotiating an RBC agreement on natural stone.

Sustainable procurement of natural stone

In anticipation, a number of pilots are being carried out promoting the sustainable procurement of natural stone. The pilots will show us how sustainable procurement practices can help companies to contribute actively to reducing RBC risks in the production and supply chain, in particular the risk of child labour. These lessons will also be instructive for other sectors.
