View production locations under the Agreement
The list is published in aggregated form every year. This is an important step en route to a more transparent supply chain. Transparency is not an end in itself, however; the true aim is to achieve major improvements in the supply chain for groups experiencing adverse impacts. How does the list of production locations contribute to achieving that aim?
- Civil society organisations can investigate the supply chain based on the list of production locations. As a result, they acquire a better understanding of the risks of companies and are able to intensify their efforts. This outcome also supports stakeholder dialogue and makes it more relevant. Read about the investigation that Arisa carried out in Tamil Nadu.
- Workers employed in the international garment and textile supply chains of the Agreement signatories (which are made visible by the list of production locations) can file a complaint if their rights are violated. Worker representatives or other civil society organisations that represent the interests of people, the environment or animals can also do so. Do you wish to file a complaint? Read here how to go about it.
- The purpose of the list of production locations is also to promote cooperation and joint activities, for example improvement programmes in factories or joint action on complaints. The list shows where production is concentrated and the Secretariat knows which production locations are shared by multiple signatories.
The Secretariat encourages use of the list of production locations in the above ways. To simplify use of the list, the production locations reported in 2018 can be found in the Open Apparel Registry, an international database available online.
View production locations under the Agreement in the Open Apparel Registry
The production locations can be viewed by entering the search term ‘Agreement on Sustainable Garments and Textile (AGT)’. Cooperation with the Open Apparel Registry means that the production locations of signatory brands are easier to track internationally and that detailed searches can be made in the list. In addition, the registry makes it immediately apparent whether other companies beyond those participating in the Agreement are purchasing from a specific site. More information is available here.
